Deputy’s tax-free vehicle ‘privilege’ sure to get backlash

R. Camacho

Santo Domingo.- In a statement Thurs. sure to spur widespread ire, ruling party (PLD) deputy Radhames Camacho said Dominicans like to see their representatives well dressed and well mounted, to justify the lawmakers’ tax-free vehicles granted by law.

He said the exemptions, more than a privilege, are a right, for which he’s against striking the perk, as proposed by Chamber of Deputies president, Ruben Maldonado.

Maldonado vowed to submit a bill to eliminate the lawmakers’ privilege to import motor vehicles tax free. “For that a consensus with the different parties is sought for a bill that will be submitted to Congress “in due time.”
