Constitution Day: Medina vows commitment to Dominicans
Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Mon. stressed his commitment to a democratic state of law and to a Government at the service of the Dominican people, in a tweet marking the Dominican Constitution’s 173rd anniversary.
The president also honored the memory of the men and women who promote democracy in the country.
“We remember on this day all the men and women who made our democracy possible and we work to preserve it always,” Medina said
The first Dominican Constitution, adopted 173 years ago, was drafted nine months after the proclamation of Independence and after just over a month of work by the Constituent Assembly established in San Cristobal on Sept. 21, 1844, in response to a call by the Central Government Junta.
