Environment says blaze at landfill under control

Santo Domingo.- The Environment Ministry on Wed. said the blaze at  Duquesa landfill is “totally” under control, “due to the rapid action taken by the authorities and relief agencies.”

It said helicopters dropped water to douse the flames, adding that they also dumped caliche and sand.

Environment Ministry official Francisco Flores said a road is being built to skirt the landfill in and prevent that type of incident.

He said permanent vigilance will be established and the burned trash will be separated.
