Border officers nab 3.3 tons of garlic; smugglers flee

Montecristi, Dominican Republic.- Border Security (CESFRONT) officers on Wednesday seized 3.3 tons of garlic in 286 sacks that was about to be smuggled into the country by sea.

The officers intercepted a boat at the site known as Playa Grande early Wed., with two outboard motors that were used to transport the contraband.

According to local media, the boat’s crew fled and left the boat abandoned.
