Senate chief: Medina won’t run, ruling party needs a new face

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina will not compete in the May 2020 elections, Senate president, Reinaldo Pared, affirmed Wed.

The organization “must present a new face” in the next elections, the lawmaker said on El Sol de la Mañana, Z101FM.

Pared, who this month launched his presidential bid, reieterated that Medina “will not go” to the next elections and will support the ruling party’s (PLD) candidate instead.

“The PLD must present a new face on the presidential ballot” next May, said the senator, who described himself as Medina’s successor in the presidency.
