Santiago.- The accounts of Santiago mayor, Abel Martínez, were frozen at the request of the lawyers of a city contractor who claims reneged payments.

The debt was from past City councils, for equipment rentals claimed by businessman Ignacio Paulino, whose lawyers requested the lien, according to the notarized document submitted on May 18.

The mayor’s frozen accounts include one for RD$4.6 million; another for RD$2.8 million, and a third for RD$1.2 million, all in the Banco Popular.

The mayor’s accounts have been frozen on at least two occasions for debts to several contractors during Gilberto Serulle’s tenure.
