Santo Domingo.- Despite the continuing tension along the border area from the shooting last weekend, things are returning to normal, after Belladère (east Haiti) mayor, Ledoux Macklish, denied that Dominican soldiers had violated their territory.

However there has been no rapprochement between the authorities of both nations.

Dominican Defense minister Rubén Darío Paulino said they still await a response from Haitian authorities to hold a second meeting which had been scheduled for last Sunday but didn’t materialize as the Haitian commissioners failed to appear.

“So far everything is normal on the border between Elías Piña and Belladère,” he said.

Market reacts

Border Guard (Cesfront) director Sugar Puttzi Frugis said the binational market as of noon yesterday was held but with light trade activity.

He added that the Dominican soldier wounded in the incident is stable, “without life-threatening injuries.”
