Electoral Board gives nod to party of heroes’ daughter

Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) on Fri. recognized the political organization Opción Democrática (OD) as a legally established political party, headed by Minou Tavárez Mirabal, daughter of the late heroes Manolo Tavarez Justo and Minerva Mirabal.

The decision adopted by the JCE Plenary last Friday results from years of efforts by Tavarez and sympathizers to obtain the JCE’s recognition

The decision also stipulates that Opcion Democratica must comply with the additional formalities of Article 18 of Act No. 33-18, “in order to fully exercise the rights set forth in the Constitution and the laws of the Republic.”
