Recent north region tremors prompt fears of ‘the big one’

Earthquake cracks, Azua hospital.

Santiago.-  The earthquakes which in recent weeks shook Haiti and Cibao (north) region towns have once again instilled fear and seved as a reminder of the area’s vulnerability.

Every tremor triggers the alarms, the authorities jump into action and people remember that precautions must be taken.

But the years of experiencing quakes have prompted many to talk about the likelihood of “the big one,” of such magnitude, that many won’t soon forget, until the earth shakes anew.

This time relief agencies have requested Civil Defense teams to hold drills and provide guidance to personnel and students so they’ll know what to do during or after a quake.
