Gold mine denies pollution, ‘most cares for natural resources’

Santo Domingo.- Barrick Pueblo Viejo president Juana Barceló on Wednesday denied that the mining company with foreign capital pollutes the municipality of Cotuí, in Sánchez Ramírez Province, as many people, media and social groups affirms.

The Barrick Gold executive’s denial comes one day after local residents said the mine contaminates Hatillo dam, the Caribbean’s largest reservoir.

“We are the mining company that most cares for the natural resources where we are installed, and in the case of Cotuí, we have complied with all the standards established by Dominican laws, in which the State is our main partner,” Barceló said.
