Dominicans mark 174 years of the Constitution

Santo Domingo.- Dominicans today mark 174 years since the proclamation of the First Constitution, on November 6, 1844, in the city of San Cristóbal.

The holiday is moved to Monday to give the country a three-day weekend.

The Constitution has been amended 39 times, mainly on the issue of the presidential reelection.

According to a 2017 analysis of the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Dominican Republic ranks first among the countries in Latin America that have made the most constitutional reforms since independence in 1844.

Venezuela occupies second position, with 26, and Haiti, third, with 24.
