Foreign Minister, US, UK envoys meet, talk UN Security Council

Santo Domingo.- Foreign minister Miguel Vargas on Wed. met with the ambassadors of the US, Robin Bernstein; and from the UK, Chris Campbell to coordinate topics on the UN Security Council agenda.

The meeting held in the Foreign Ministry focused on the Dominican Republic’s imminent entry as a non-permanent member to that body of the UN.

Vargas and the envoys stressed their governments’ willingness to collaborate mutually within the council.

The official stated his country’s approach on key issues such as climate change, the need for actions to benefit the youth, women and other segments. “From that important role that we will assume within a few weeks, it will be our task to defend the interests of our country and the rights of a world eager for lasting peace and security.”

Also present at the meeting were officials of the US embassy, Maureen McGovern; and of the British Embassy, ​​Claudia Taboada.

The Dominican Republic will become a non-permanent member of the Security Council from January 1, 2019, to December 2020.
