Supreme Court chief justice to step down

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court of chief justice Mariano Germán Mejía, on Monday announced that he won’t undergo the National Magistrates Council’s evaluations to replace or confirm the members of that high court .
He said he will continue in the evaluations as a member of the Council and remain on the bench until the body chooses his replacement.
Reading from a letter after Monday’s Council meeting, Germán said that his decision was “irrevocable” and had “strictly personal reasons.”
