Santo Domingo.- In an unprecedented incident nearly 100 uniformed and plainclothes police officers on Tues. staged a protest at the Police headquarters demanding a promotion in rank.

The agents claim they’ve held their current ranks for at least four years and have yet to be promoted.

Nonetheless National Police spokesman Frank Durán said that over 13,000 officers have been promoted just in the last two years and more than 7,000 this time.

He revealed that the Police doesn’t have enough funds to cover more promotions.

He added that the protesters must wait for another opportunity “unfortunately the one that stayed behind, stayed, I’ve been a colonel for 16 years and I’m not protesting, I’m still working normally.”

The protesters completely filled the lobby of headquarters before dispersing back to their respective assignments.
