Downpours mark end of drought

Santo Domingo.- The latest downpours from a trough over much of the country will continue Wednesday, gradually intensifying in the afternoon.

The National Weather Office (Onamet) however forecasts mostly sunny skies for the rest of the country during the day and little rain, with seasonably mild temperatures at night and early morning, especially in highland areas.

Despite the significant rains Onamet urges the population to ration water.

The rains in recent days have drawn sighs of relief from farmers and ranchers, as well as filling reservoirs and increased the flow of rivers.

“The rainfall has been a blessing,” said an Agriculture Ministry official for Santiago and the Northwest.
