Parties; ‘Hostile’ Electoral Board blocks their coalition for primaries

Presidents: Minou Tavares Mirabal (OD) Guillermo Moreno, AlPais

Santo Domingo.- The opposition parties Alianza Pais (Alpaís) and Opción Democrática (OD) on Wed. accused the Central Electoral Board (JCE) of blocking their participation in the October 6 primaries through a coalition.

They said the JCE rejected an initial request and then a reiteration to participate in the primaries as a coalition.

“The entire board in a hostile, arbitrary and illegal attitude, has insisted on preventing our parties from participating in the primaries on October 6 in a coalition of parties,” said OD president Minou Tavares Mirabal.

She said that on March 25, the Board Plenary ruled against an appeal to reconsider the objection, and to be able to participate as allies.

“In due time we will communicate the mechanism that we will use to choose our candidates,” Tavares said.
