Dominican Republic’s ruling party takes its crisis to Congress

Quiet for now

Santo Domingo.- Former president and head of Dominican Republic’s ruling party (PLD), Leonel Fernández, will lead a protest against a possible constitutional amendment to pave the way for president Danilo Medina’s reelection.

Fernandez and his supporters have maintained an intense struggle against Medina’s reelection, and their internal rivals criticize their belligerence with which they target Medina since more than a year ago.

Troops

Defense minister Rubén Darío Paulino on Tues. said that the Armed Forces will continue to guarantee security, and that the National Police has absolute control over the area around Congress.
