Hospital attends 187 cases of psoriasis

In the first seven months of initiating the program of free supply of a new biological medicine to treat cutaneous psoriasis installed in the Francisco Moscoso Puello hospital, 187 patients with this inflammatory skin disease that cause redness, scaling, pain and swelling have been received.

During this period, the program offered consultations to 708 patients, of which 187 had the disease that can be registered anywhere in the body, for an average of 26 of the 100 patients that the unit receives each month.

The cost of psoriasis treatment is around 185 thousand pesos, but the hospital delivers it free to patients with this disease, with the support of the High Cost and Medical Aid Program of the Ministry of Public Health.

By offering the details to Listín Diario, Dr. Alina Hernández, head of the Dermatology Service of the Moscoso Puello hospital, explained that psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, where there is an abnormal production of cells that give rise to skin lesions, but It can also affect other organs, often accompanied by comorbidities, such as diabetes, hypertension or cardiovascular risk. He said that 30% of people with the disease are diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis.
