Govt. corruption? Public Works spends RD$13M+ on backpacks

Santo Domingo.- The Public Works Ministry in July called a tender to buy 20,000 backpacks for the 2019 school year, which would cost more than RD$13 million.

Public Works, which at that time was headed by Gonzalo Castillo, made the call based on the Public Contracts and Purchases Law.

But various sectors question the agency’s role in a transaction that should be managed by the Education Ministry.

In a document posted on Public Work’s website, the entity calls “all interested parties to submit proposals.”

“Those interested in retrieving the specifications could do so from Tuesday, July 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.”
