Odebrecht case: Chief Justice should step aside or face challenge

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court chief justice, Luis Henry Molina, today Mon. must recuse himself or face being challenged in the prosecution of the six accused of taking US$92 million in bribes paid by Odebrecht to secure state works contracts.

Article 78 of the Criminal Procedure Code establishes that “having friendship that manifests itself by great familiarity or frequency of engagement with any of the parties and intervening in a process” is one of the reasons for the recusal or challenge of judges .

The new situation in the judicial process is foreseen, after information that evidences the ties of friendship and political relationship that Molina, and the senator, Tommy Galán came to light.
