Lack of a Solid Waste Law spooks investments

J. Kheel

Santo Domingo.- The lack of a Solid Waste Law is holding back investments that would lead to resolving, or at least improve the country’s waste management.

National Business Support for Environmental Protection Network (Ecored) president Jake Kheel, points out that there are many projects related to the transformation of refuse that have come to the Dominican Republic but have not advanced due to the lack of such regulations.

“No investor is going to put 20, 30 or 40 million dollars in an investment, in a technology that requires a raw material that is not guaranteed. That has been the roadblock in the East, and in many areas of the country it should be like this,” he said

Ecored director María Alicia Urbaneja, adds: this is a reality that will remain as long as there is no legal certainty. I think that once we have that law, there will be a lot of innovation.”
