Passed! english second language

The plenary of the Chamber of Deputies approved yesterday the bill that seeks to guarantee to learn English as a second language in Dominican public schools and is supported by more than 90 legislators.

The bill to favor pre-university education, submitted by Deputy Servia Familia Echabarría (Iris), representative of the Dominicans in District 1 of the Foreign District for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), will now go to the Senate of the Republic.

Article 3 declares of public interest the learning and teaching of the English language in the Dominican educational system, from the fourth grade of elementary school to the sixth grade of high school. The Ministry of Education will design the teacher training program with its budget.

Remodeling La Romana

The deputies approved the resolution requesting President Luis Abinader instruct the Ministry of Public Works to remodel and give maintenance to the province of La Romana entrance roads on the San Pedro de Macoris stretch of the highway. The bill is by Congressman Eduard Espiritusanto.

Wonderful…and where are the teachers to do so?

It is an incentive for the government to hire more teachers or teaching assistants with English skills. Expect a call out for skilled foreigners. University students with the skill could teach English in the public schools for pay and academic credits, a win win situation.
