“This country is not racist”, Leonel says the North American authorities have been wrong

Leonel Fernández, president of the Fuerza del Pueblo, categorically denied racism against Haitian nationals in the Dominican Republic. “The most important thing for us is to demonstrate that this town is not racist, that it is not racist.” “What we’re dealing with here is a historical issue, a geographic issue, a migratory issue of survival between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, but it’s not a racial issue,” he explained. According to Fernández, the North American authorities “made a radical mistake by adopting this measure, and thus we in the Dominican Republic.” We must strongly oppose this, as has already been done by all sectors of the Dominican Republic, including the People’s Force, by responding, rejecting, and condemning US policy as inappropriate and unfair with regard to the There is no racism here.”

The former president stated that we are taught about racism, but we forget that during the 2010 Haiti earthquake, a photograph of “a Dominican mother breastfeeding a Haitian child” traveled the world, and “we were internationally recognized for our solidarity,” he added. Fernández described arriving in Haiti the day after the earthquake. “I came in secret because there had been an attack against me the previous time.” We didn’t make much of a fuss about it, but that was because it wasn’t going to inflame tempers and spark a fight. “At the time, I thought it was wrong,” he explained, referring to his efforts as Dominican president at the time.

The former Dominican president recalled that during that official visit, there was an attack on him that was very serious. “When leaving the Haitian (Presidential) Palace, something serious happened. There was a crowd with machetes waiting for us, and there was a vehicle on the corner that had been set on fire so that we couldn’t cross, and when we were finally able to cross, they machine-gunned us, they fired machine guns at us,” he recalled.

This country is not racist? Interesting? terminate the dark skin Dominicanas from their employments and replaced those piel obscuro with piel clara with pelo bueno from Venezuela. DR will not accept refugees from Haiti but will build a refugee village for racist Ukranians whom clearly id themselves as racist at the beginning of the war. Agreed, it is not a racist country, but an ultra stupidly racist country. Keep your products in DR, the world is turning against you. redemptions time!!!

You know we can see your ip address right?

another thing, i don’t endorse any illegal immigration not even from my own country, not from haiti, not from the us, not from venezuela not even from norway, so shut the hell up. “redemption” like we were the ones playing empires after massacring part of your own population.

we have done nothing but help your ungrateful failed state and you have done nothing but bite the hand that feeds you

You’re hilarious. The difference between Haiti and all of the countries you mentioned is that they actually have functioning institutions that work to get them refugee status before they enter the Dominican Republic. Haitians don’t even have IDs/birth certificates from Haiti but you all want the Dominican government to make up identities for you by word of mouth? Another thing, Haitians hold most of the jobs in the tourist areas so what the hell are you even talking about?

Have to ask why many Dominicans buy skin whitening products, straighten their hair and paint it different colors? Is it because they do not want to be dark, labeled and being associated as Haitian?

Of course there is racism in the RD and many other countries to include especially the USA.. To deny it is absurd. Politicians who deny there is racism is all about the votes they may garner if they blow wind about nationalism and the country’s sovereignty.

Lionel, a politician, is blowing air out his rear end if he says the country is not racist. The country has done good humanitarian things for the Haitians, but it does not offset the bad. The bad is being swept under the carpet, not talked about.

This is the same man that built a college in Haiti and Haitians tried to kill him on his way back to DR. What good have you all done for DR?

I was in the DR the beginning of November. RACISM is alive against Haitians! It was sad to see how they are treated by immigration. Honestly the way they were put in the back of the trucks reminded me of animal control here is in the US. I have seen the videos where they walk up to these proples homes and look in the doors to see if there are Haitians inside. WTF! I understand using force if need be but they’ve taken it to a whole different level. I got an alert the other day that the US is warning black Americans not to travel to the DR because of what is going on. I understand that most of the Haitians are illegal but if they are minding their business and not hurting anyone why seek them out? Ultimately they are just looking for a better life. Did anyone stop to think that maybe once they have the money they will get their papers? If they aren’t doing anything wrong leave them be. At the end of the day we are all God’s children right?
