Maritime accident leaves a teenage tourist dead on Saona Island

Authorities in the area reported that an adolescent of Peruvian nationality died after being accidentally run over by a boat on a beach on Saona Island. According to reliable sources, Luisa Nicollete Muro Arbieto, 15, suffered several traumatic amputations while bathing at Los Muchos beach. Francis Matos Samboy, 29, the captain of the “Anabel III” tourist boat, was arrested for the accident.

The adolescent’s body was taken to the town of Bayahibe, which is part of the municipality of San Rafael del Yuma in the province of La Altagracia. The minor was discovered to be staying at the Cadaques Dominicus hotel in Bayahibe with her mother, Rosario del Carmen Arbieto.

The adolescent had traumatic amputations of the right upper and lower limbs, as well as a traumatic section of the left thigh. The authorities in the area have not provided any additional information about the tragic event.

Most of those people driving those boats are untrained, unsupervised, undocumented illegals.

This is a horrible happening. We can expect the death investigation will involve where the boy was in the water and how far out from the beach he was? Was he within the accepted swimming zone or outside of it? Was he snorkeling which may have made him unnoticed? The boat captain will be questioned about the boat location at the time of the accident, i.e., was it in the boat channel or not and moving at proper speed for the location? Was the captain or person at controls distracted or view obstructed? How long on the job?
