Minister of Economy and FAO officials talk in Rome about cooperation opportunities for the Dominican Republic

The Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Pável Isa Contreras, visited the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), where he held meetings with officials of the United Nations agency and discussed cooperation opportunities for the Republic Dominican. The first meeting was with the chief economist of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Máximo Torero. The meeting at FAO headquarters was attended by the Deputy Director General and Regional Representative Mario Lubetkin and the economist Cristian Morales. Isa Contreras was accompanied by the Vice Minister of International Cooperation, Olaya Dotel, and the General Director of Multilateral Cooperation, Sandra Lara.

Minister Isa Contreras presented in a general way the performance of the economy and its achievements and the challenges that the country has to improve and transform the institutional framework of Dominican agriculture to make it resilient and more competitive. He said that this transformation must take into account innovation, technology, and better use of water resources. He specified that currently, the Ministries of Economy and Agriculture are working together on a rural development proposal. FAO ratified their willingness to continue collaborating with the country in technical assistance at the request of the Dominican Government to take advantage of non-reimbursable cooperation to promote better performance in the goldfish chain.

They argued that another initiative is the FAO Investment Center which could support the identification and formulation of investment projects linked to agricultural productive transformation.
