Borrell says that Dominican Republic is a focal point of stability

The European Union considers the Dominican Republic a focus of stability in the region due to its economic prosperity and increasing international trade, according to Josep Borrell, the high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. He highlighted that the country has doubled its exports to Europe and is exporting medical products and equipment, not just bananas and coffee.

Borrell also discussed the common concerns between the Dominican Republic and Spain, including the crisis in neighboring Haiti, which is a serious concern for the region, particularly due to the shared island. Borrell agreed with the UN Security Council sending international troops to Haiti to help address the political, social, economic, and humanitarian crisis that the country is facing.

He stated that the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy would support any initiative that seeks to pacify Haiti and did not rule out the possibility of European military support.
