Man tries to kill his grandmother for not giving him money to buy cigarettes

In the Lazado area of the Los Cercadillos section in the province of Santiago Rodríguez, a man was shot by National Police agents as he attempted to kill his 80-year-old grandmother by setting fire to the living room with her inside. The man, identified as Juan Argenis Torres, reportedly attacked members of a police patrol with a Colin-type knife during his arrest.

The police report stated that the agents were compelled to fire two shots, which injured the aggressor in both lower limbs. Meanwhile, Mrs. Danelia Altagracia Martínez managed to escape the house through the back and was unharmed.

According to Mrs. Martínez’s account, her grandson allegedly committed the heinous act because she refused to give him money to buy cigarettes.
