Over 300 individuals apprehended for environmental violations in January 2024

Santo Domingo.- In January 2024, the National Environmental Protection Service (Senpa) apprehended and handed over 348 individuals to the Public Ministry for violating environmental laws. These arrests took place during 953 operations conducted nationwide, resulting in the seizure of 146 motor vehicles, including backhoes, mechanical shovels, dump trucks, trucks, and motorcycles.

Data from the Senpa Operations Directorate revealed that Los Haitises National Park recorded the highest number of detained individuals in January (52 in total), while Santiago province had the highest number of detained vehicles (32 in total).

Additionally, 1,780 patrols were conducted across the country, with Monseñor Nouel province standing out with 157 patrols. Senpa announced its commitment to ongoing operations nationwide, aiming to fulfill its role in investigating, pursuing, detaining, and presenting individuals, whether natural or legal, who violate environmental laws. This effort is geared towards ensuring the sustainability of natural resources.

Captain René Rodríguez Álvarez, the director of Senpa, emphasized that environmental responsibility is a collective duty and urged citizens to support the fight against crimes that harm natural resources.
