5-year-old girl suffers from congenital heart disease and needs surgery, but her family has no resources

Santo Domingo – A mother appeals to the solidarity of President Luis Abinader and First Lady Raquel Arbaje to perform heart surgery on her little daughter, who has a congenital heart disease that prevents her from leading a normal life.
The procedure is not performed in the country, so she and her daughter must travel to Colombia to have it done.

Sarah Lorenzo explains that the diagnosis of her daughter Ismel, five years old, is Pulmonary Atresia with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). This condition prevents the blood that reaches the lungs for oxygenation to do so without passing through the heart.

She indicates that the amount needed to perform the surgery is 42,500 dollars, plus the pre-and post-operative stay for her and her little girl.

Sarah is a low-income mother who had to quit her job to care for her daughter, and what her husband earns is not enough to cover the expenses.

She points out that she has been looking for help from different institutions for some time, but so far, she has not received any response, so she keeps knocking on new doors until she reaches her goal.
