Santo Domingo.- The interim Executive Director of the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant), Colonel Pilot Randolfo Rijo, ERD, and the President of the Presidential Commission to Support Neighborhood Development (CPADB), Rolfi Rojas Guzmán, have entered into an inter-institutional agreement. The purpose of this agreement is to collaborate on implementing comprehensive strategies aimed at enhancing urban mobility, road safety, and the quality of life in Dominican neighborhoods.
Under the agreement, both institutions pledge to work together on the transformation and modernization of passenger transportation using motorcycles, through the MOTOBEN Program. This initiative will involve setting up over 150 motorcycle stops across various locations in the country. These stops will be duly registered and licensed in accordance with Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit, and Road Safety.
Furthermore, the agreement includes provisions for providing safety equipment, such as protective vests and helmets, to motorcycle drivers. There will also be a focus on ensuring compliance with all existing legal regulations through coordination between the parties. This will not only improve public transportation services but also enhance user safety.
In highlighting the significance of the pact, the officials emphasized its role as a catalyst for sustainable development and citizen security. The objective is not only to enhance road and transportation infrastructure but also to promote security, reduce crime, and mitigate environmental pollution.
This collaborative effort falls within the framework of the National Citizen Security System and the Comprehensive National Citizen Security Strategy “My Safe Country,” demonstrating the Dominican State’s commitment to the progress and well-being of its citizens.
The agreement will initially be valid for two years, with the possibility of renewal. It is expected to set a precedent in transportation management and regulation in the Dominican Republic, fostering more inclusive and secure urban development for all.

These public safety agreements, like always in the RD, will experience a lot of activity to fill the media’s hunger and then will subside into nothingness.
How about bus stops as well? I absolutely loathe getting behind a local bus that stops every 30 feet to pick up or drop off someone. And of course, when you try to pass them, they pull right out on you. There is so very much to fix on the roads. As Paul said…lots of words…little reality.
