Southern Command inaugurates activity at Barahona Air Base

Barahona, DR.- The Southern Command of the Barahona Air Base officially initiated operations on Thursday with patrol demonstrations in peripheral areas.

The event, held at the Maria Montez International Airport, was overseen by Vice Minister of Defense for Air and Space Affairs, Pilot Major General Leonel Amilcar Muñoz, representing the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa.

According to Paratrooper Brigadier General Víctor Nicolás de Peña, the Commander in charge, the Southern Command aims to enhance operational capacity and undertake air missions in the province, surrounding areas, and border regions in response to the ongoing violence in neighboring Haiti.

Additionally, he elaborated that the Southern Command will conduct patrol, rescue, and training missions for pilots stationed in the southern zone, utilizing aircraft stationed at the base such as the A-28B Super Tucano.
