4.0 earthquake is recorded in Higüey
La Altagracia, DR.- The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 4.0 magnitude earthquake, centered approximately 8 kilometers from Higüey, within La Altagracia province. The earthquake struck at 4:36 p.m. local time, reaching a depth of 144 kilometers.
Simultaneously, the Dominican National Seismology Center registered a separate earthquake measuring 3.4 magnitude. This seismic event’s epicenter was pinpointed 2.5 kilometers south of the San Rafael del Yuma municipality, also located in La Altagracia province.
This 4.0 quake occurred in the cane fields of Cental Romana, positioned about a km NE of the Palo Bonita school, a public school, sitting alongside Autopista Coral near the Higuey crossroads.
