Infotep announces Dominican Republic’s participation in WorldSkills competition

Santo Domingo.- Rafael Santos Badía, the General Director of the National Institute of Professional Technical Training (Infotep), revealed that the Dominican Republic will be competing in the international WorldSkills competition in Lyon, France, from September 10 to 15, 2024.

Representing the country will be Euris Astacio and Fraylin López in Cybersecurity, Jhaydée Valdez in Pastry and Confectionery, and Yasmel Valdez in Bakery. These talented individuals secured their spots after emerging victorious in the WorldSkills Dominican Republic 2023 and WorldSkills Chile 2023 competitions.

Badía underscored the significance of these competitions in fostering the training of skilled and creative young individuals, positioning Infotep and the Dominican Republic as leaders in technical education and development.

The event will feature approximately 1,500 competitors from over 65 countries showcasing their expertise in 64 technical skills. Leading the Dominican delegation will be Infotep’s General Director, Rafael Santos Badía, as the Official Delegate, along with Maura Corporán, the Director of Innovation and Development, serving as the Technical Delegate.

The announcement was made during the medal presentation ceremony held by Infotep to honor the winning participants of the WorldSkills Dominican Republic 2023 and WorldSkills Chile 2023 competitions.

At the event, which brings together students, technicians, academics, and experts competing in various disciplines, Euris Astacio Medina and Frailyn López from Infotep’s Metropolitan Regional Directorate secured the silver medal in the Cybersecurity category.

The successful participants received support from expert facilitators Claudio Rafael Arias for Cybersecurity, Ángel Gómez for Bakery, and Hemas Noesí Hernández for Pastry.

WorldSkills International and WorldSkills Americas are non-profit organizations dedicated to promoting technical-vocational training and education institutions worldwide, with the former operating at the global level and the latter focusing on the Americas region.
