Vice President Raquel Peña leads inaugural ProCibao 2024 event

Santiago, DR.- Led by Vice President Raquel Peña, the inauguration of ProCibao 2024  marked the commencement of a platform aimed at bolstering initiatives for the internationalization of Dominican products, fostering investments, and stimulating production in the northern region of the country.

The event will feature a business conference facilitating interactions between exporters and investors from Costa Rica, Antigua and Barbuda, Peru, the United States, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Spain. Additionally, there will be conferences on export and investment, along with exhibitions showcasing local products and services.

Vice President Raquel Peña emphasized the significance of such events in showcasing the unique investment advantages offered by Santiago, the northern region, and the entire Dominican Republic. She highlighted the country’s role as a logistics hub for Central America and the Caribbean.

Peña, who also chairs the Investment Promotion Cabinet, underscored the northern region’s attributes, including a skilled workforce representing 40% of the country’s jobs, a thriving free zone sector accounting for 50% of the national total, and exports exceeding $7,964 million in 2023. She attributed these achievements to the commitment and vision of the government, led by President Luis Abinader, in implementing pro-investment and pro-business policies. Peña mentioned key accomplishments facilitated by the Investment Promotion Cabinet, such as the enactment of a new Customs Law and the implementation of the Zero Bureaucracy program.

Minister of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs, Víctor Bisonó, highlighted the vital role of the northern region in the country’s economic growth, emphasizing its contribution of 35% to the nation’s economic activity and 40% of formal jobs.

The event is organized by four institutions committed to the economic and business growth of the Dominican Republic: the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and Production, the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), the Santiago Free Trade Zone Corporation, and the Association of Industrialists of the Northern Region (AIREN).

Carlos Iglesias, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santiago, described ProCibao as a tool to promote exports, attract investments, facilitate inter-institutional relations, and enhance the competitiveness of the Cibao region.

Biviana Riveiro, executive director of ProDominicana, emphasized ProCibao2024 as a symbol of the region’s potential and urged collective efforts to continue boosting the economy and elevating the country’s name. Miguel Lama, president of the Santiago Free Trade Zone Corporation, outlined a vision for the Northern Region as the “Business Mecca and Investment Epicenter of the Americas,” with plans for a “Smart Business City” to attract investments and promote advanced business culture. Juan Ventura, president of the Association of Industrialists of the Northern Region, highlighted the region’s readiness to explore new markets and seize emerging opportunities.

ProCibao will take place on April 11 and 12 at the UTESA Dominican Convention and Culture Center, welcoming the public to engage in the program of activities. The event is supported by sponsors including Espalsa in the PRO category and Banco Popular, Bocel, and Grupo Tadug in the PLUS category.
