Ufhec and University of Puerto Rico partner to advance cooperative development
Santo Domingo.- The Federico Henríquez y Carvajal University (Ufhec) and the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, are joining forces to advance cooperativism and the solidarity economy as models of economic development at the local and regional levels through a professional certification program in cooperative management and development.
Alberto Ramírez, the national rector of Ufhec, underscored the significance of bolstering training, development, and enhancement within the cooperative sector, emphasizing its relevance to the country’s economy, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.
“This marks Ufhec’s initial stride towards contributing to the progression and enrichment of the cooperative sector. The certification, valued at 12 academic credits, will be recognized for the master’s degree program in management and development of cooperatives offered by the University of Puerto Rico,” Ramírez stated.
Ramírez noted that this certification stems from the outcomes of a collaborative agreement established last year between the two educational institutions.
Elba Echevarría, a professor at the University of Puerto Rico and the Institute of Cooperatives, emphasized that the certification fosters a strong sense of ethical responsibility and social commitment in the development and administration of cooperatives and solidarity organizations, facilitating the realization of a sustainable economy.
The national rector of Ufhec received a delegation from the University of Puerto Rico’s metropolitan campus, consisting of Professor Elba Echevarría, Executive Director of the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies Aurora Sotográs, and Professor Pedro Santiago.
