Ministry of Education announces temporary class suspension for Election preparation

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) announced on Tuesday the temporary suspension of classes from Friday, May 17, to Monday, May 20 (inclusive) in educational institutions serving as polling stations. This measure is to facilitate the installation and coordination of polling stations by personnel designated by the Central Electoral Board (JCE).

In a statement issued, Minister of Education Ángel Hernández instructed regional and district directors to make educational facilities available to the Central Electoral Board (JCE) starting Friday, May 17. This step aims to streamline the voting process for citizens participating in the elections scheduled for Sunday, May 19.

Regular in-person classes will resume on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, following the conclusion of the Presidential and Congressional Elections for the period 2024-2028.

To ensure minimal disruption to students’ learning during the suspension period, Minerd’s leadership directed the implementation of virtual teaching and the assignment of educational activities to monitor the learning processes.
