Ministry of Culture invites participation in 2024 International Book Fair

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Culture formally invites writers, editors, booksellers, librarians, cultural foundations, government institutions, academies, universities, and related entities to submit their proposals for participation in the XXVI Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2024, which will be held from November 7 to 17 at the Plaza de la Cultura.

The Ministry announced that proposals will be evaluated by officials from its General Directorate of Books and Reading, with priority given to those aligned with the main objectives of the fair. These objectives include promoting access to books and interest in reading, showcasing authors’ works, fostering reflection and dialogue on key issues in contemporary thought and writing, providing a marketing and distribution platform for books, and strengthening the conceptual and operational framework of FILSD 2024.

The evaluation will also consider the creativity, originality, and relevance of the proposal content. Applicants will be informed about the acceptance of their proposals for the fair program in the first half of August 2024.

This edition of the fair, the most significant book and culture festival in the Dominican Republic, will feature conferences, talks, colloquiums, discussions, book presentations, recitals, workshops, and screenings of films and shorts.

Participation in the Imagination Pavilion

The Ministry of Culture also invites higher education centers, technical and technological training centers, institutions, and technology companies to submit proposals for participation in the Imagination Pavilion. This pavilion is dedicated to showcasing new technologies such as artificial intelligence, the metaverse, robotics, and mechatronics.

Applications for the Imagination Pavilion will be accepted until June 20, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the offices of the General Directorate of Books and Reading, located in the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte.

This Ministry of Culture would be wise to establish satellite book fares in other parts of the country. Satellite book fares would bring enjoyment and knowledge closer to segments of the population that do not have the opportunity to travel to Santo Domingo.
