Deputies approve Law creating specialized emergency and disaster mitigation corps

Santo Domingo.- On Monday, the Chamber of Deputies approved a bill establishing the Specialized Corps for Emergency and Disaster Mitigation (CEMED), aimed at enhancing the State’s capacity to respond to natural and man-made disasters affecting the national territory.

The bill will now be sent to the Executive Branch for promulgation, as announced in a statement by the legislative chamber. Additionally, the deputies approved in a second reading a project concerning Logistics Centers, Logistics Center Operating Companies, and Logistics Operating Companies.

This logistics bill, also set for submission to the Executive Branch, aims to establish a legal framework to promote the Dominican Republic as a regional logistics hub. It will regulate the operations of logistics centers and companies, leveraging the country’s geographical location and connectivity to foster sustainable development.

In a first reading, the deputies also approved a bill on school food and nutrition. This legislation seeks to promote healthy eating habits through nutritional education and the provision of adequate foods, ensuring student well-being and optimizing their learning process.

Furthermore, the deputies passed a project modifying Law No. 15-24, dated July 2, 2024, which elevates the municipal district of La Victoria in Santo Domingo province to municipality status, along with the municipal district of La Caleta in Boca Chica.
