U.S. and Dominican Republic to sign Open Skies Agreement on August 2

Santo Domingo.- On Friday, August 2, the Open Skies Agreement between the United States and the Dominican Republic will be signed, with President Luis Abinader in attendance. The signing will be graced by José W. Fernández, the U.S. Undersecretary of Economic Growth, Energy, and Environment, who is set to arrive in the country on Thursday, August 1.

During his visit to Santo Domingo on August 1 and 2, Undersecretary Fernández will also engage in discussions with Dominican authorities on aviation matters. The signing ceremony, to be held at the National Palace, will include the presence of Congressman Adriano Espaillat and other Dominican political figures.

According to a State Department press release obtained by Diario Libre, “The Agreement will expand the strong economic and commercial partnership, promote ties between peoples, and create new opportunities for airlines, travel companies, and customers.” During his stay in Santo Domingo, Undersecretary Fernández will participate in bilateral meetings with officials from the Dominican government and the private sector.

This new agreement builds on a U.S. Open Skies framework with more than 135 other partners, allowing U.S. airlines to operate and expand flight networks beyond U.S. borders, thereby connecting the U.S. economy to emerging markets.
