New sustainable waste management project in Samaná

Samaná.- The provinces of Samaná and María Trinidad Sánchez are on the brink of a major transformation in solid waste management with the launch of the Sustainable Northeast project.

This initiative, spearheaded by Maxter Constructora SRL, will bring a state-of-the-art solid waste recovery plant to the community of Sánchez in Samaná. The facility will have the capacity to process and recover 450 tons of waste daily, offering a significant improvement in waste management for the region.

The project has already secured an environmental license from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, following a comprehensive analysis of a 756-page environmental impact study conducted over nearly a year. This license ensures that the plant will adhere to strict environmental standards, providing a sustainable and efficient solution to the province’s waste management challenges.

The Sustainable Northeast project will unfold in two critical phases:

First Phase: Construction and operation of the waste recovery plant, which will encompass recycling, treatment, recovery, and storage of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). This phase will focus on comprehensive waste management.

Second Phase: Construction and operation of a thermochemical reactor (GAS) that will utilize RDF to generate electrical energy for the national power grid.
