Rain or shine? Here’s what the weather will be like this weekend in the Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo – The National Meteorological Office (ONAMET) reported that this Saturday will be mostly dry and with a slightly gray sky due to dust, but in some areas, there could be light showers or isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.
“The sky will be slightly grayish will predominate in most of the Dominican territory, due to slight concentration of Saharan dust. Humidity will be reduced and significant rainfall will be scarce due to the predominance of an anticyclonic system,” they explained.
“However, the interaction of the wind with the orography will produce cloud increases, mainly in the afternoon, with showers and distant thundershowers in localities of Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, San Juan, Elías Piña, Azua and some sectors of Greater Santo Domingo, among others nearby,” they added.
The entity also informed that due to the time of the year (summer), the dust particles coming from the Sahara, the high temperatures, and the high winds, the recommendation to the population to avoid direct sun exposure without proper protection, mainly between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., to drink enough water and to wear light-colored clothes is maintained.
Meanwhile, for Sunday, although humidity values will be low, a trough at various levels of the troposphere will be approaching, causing a more unstable environment that, in combination with local effects, will favor the occurrence of clouds, showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts over provinces of the southeast, the Central Cordillera and the border area, especially towards: La Altagracia, La Romana, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña and Dajabón.
