Education Minister highlights ISFODOSU’s pivotal role in induction program for new teachers

Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Education, Ángel Hernández, has praised the crucial role played by the Instituto Superior Docente Salomé Ureña (ISFODOSU) in the successful implementation of the National Induction Program for newly hired teachers in the Dominican Republic’s education system.

During an interview on a special edition of the program El Gobierno de la Mañana, Minister Hernández revealed that there had been a proposal to contract a foreign university to develop and coordinate the program’s content. However, he chose to place his trust in ISFODOSU, which not only managed to execute the program successfully but also led 23 participating universities in the training process. This, he noted, is clear evidence that the country possesses the necessary resources and expertise to continue transforming its education system.

“When we arrived, there were 23,000 teachers who had just entered the system, and the law mandates that they must undergo an induction course to adapt to classroom work. I called the Rector of ISFODOSU and put her in charge of the process, which is now a model in Latin America,” Hernández stated.

He emphasized that teachers who have completed the National Induction Program are better prepared, more engaged in their work, and capable of training others.

Dr. Nurys del Carmen González, the Rector of ISFODOSU, explained that the university’s professors were responsible for designing and developing the various courses within the Induction Plan. They also trained the trainers from the other participating universities and implemented the induction process for multiple cohorts of new teachers.

“ISFODOSU was entrusted with the responsibility of training teachers from other universities, as well as our own, who were participating in the National Induction Program and who would go on to train additional teachers,” the Rector emphasized.

Additionally, ISFODOSU’s technology team developed the platform that manages the program across all participating universities.

These statements were made during the special broadcast titled “Changing the Country from the Classroom,” which also featured representatives from other entities within the Ministry of Education (MINERD).
