Weather conditions for this weekend

Santo Domingo – The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) reported this Friday that in the morning, conditions will be mostly sunny, warm, and with little rainfall over most of the Dominican territory. However, some isolated showers could occur over the Caribbean coast.

After midday, a trough and daytime heating will cause clouds accompanied by heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts.

These conditions will mainly affect the provinces of the northwest, northeast, and eastern plains, the Central Mountain Range, and the border area.

Among the most affected provinces are El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Samaná, La Vega, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Monte Cristi, Valverde, and Elías Piña.

For Saturday, INDOMET forecasts that the humidity and the influence of the trough will continue to generate clouds in the afternoon, with locally heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts.

The most affected localities will include Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, San Juan, Dajabón and Elías Piña.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the warm wind from the southeast and the effects of daytime heating will cause clouds starting in the morning, with moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts.

The northeast, east, Caribbean coast, Central Mountain Range, and border area will be most prone to these conditions, affecting provinces such as Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, San Juan, Independencia, and Elías Piña.

INDOMET advised the population to stay informed and take precautions, especially in the provinces under alert for possible flash floods and landslides due to the heavy rains forecast.
