Joining efforts to reduce seismic vulnerability in the Southern Region
Santo Domingo.- The National Office for Seismic Assessment and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) and the provincial government of San Juan de la Maguana organized the “Onesvie Service Dynamics” Conversation to unite local government leaders and outline assessment services to reduce seismic vulnerability in the region’s buildings and infrastructure. The event focused on encouraging collaboration to improve the safety of public and private structures.
Dr. Ana María Castillo, the provincial governor, emphasized the importance of Onesvie’s work in evaluating buildings and urged officials to facilitate the inspection process to ensure the safety of employees and the public. She stressed the need for follow-up on recommendations to offer better services and secure work environments.
The goal is to reduce seismic vulnerability and mitigate the impact of potential earthquakes. The event, attended by over 45 officials, took place on September 13, 2024, at the provincial government headquarters in San Juan de la Maguana.
When a new project is mentioned there is a lot of media hype about participants being enthused. This joint effort may have goals and objectives. Will there be transparent minutes of joint meetings available, if any? Can it be expected the goals and objectives are being accomplished? Will they die away because of a cancer of apathy overtaking earlier enthusiasm?
