Activists protest against denationalization of Haitian descendants

Santo Domingo.- Activists from the Recognized Movement staged a peaceful protest in front of the National Palace yesterday, urging President Luis Abinader to end the “denationalization of Haitian descendants” resulting from ruling 168-13 from 2013 and the Neutralization Law 169-14.

Under the slogan “If we are not Dominican, neither is Abinader,” the protesters displayed banners stating “Enough racism” and “We are Dominicans and we have rights.” They called for the recognition of the social, economic, and political rights of individuals they believe are of Haitian descent, as well as the restoration of nationality for all denationalized individuals born between 1929 and 2010.

Elena Lorac, a spokesperson for the movement, emphasized the need for President Abinader to return to legality and restore the nationality of hundreds of thousands of Dominicans of Haitian descent born in the country. She highlighted ongoing discrimination and arbitrary detentions faced by young people in the community, who are targeted based on their physical appearance, regardless of their valid identification documents.

The movement’s press release stressed that the Haitian-descendant community significantly contributes to the country’s economic, social, and cultural development. They called on national and international social and political organizations advocating against statelessness to support their cause.

They found a way to make some dollars from donations, and USAID would not let this thing die as they can use it againt DR at a convenient time. This is the way this things work.

The nation of Haiti and the Dominican Republic have a long history of strife and struggle caused by colonist from france, spain and several dictorships. American intervention has shaped much of Dominican policies. The worst enemies of the dominican people has been its own political parties and internal strife, yet they never get blamed. Haiti has caused problems for the DR during its early struggle for independance. In modern times the existing political adminstrations have signed onto several Human rights agreements as a member of the UN. These have been ratified and intrenched within the construct of the Dominican constitution through tribunals, which are binding. All i see here is people whining about outside countries trying to interfer with how the DR runs its own country. despite the fact that several adminstrations have signed binding constitutional agreements within the UNHR construct. If you wont or cant keep agreements you legally agreed to abide by, whats the point?. If you have a child in 95% of any country within the americas, citizenship is automatic. This has been used by many expat Dominicans abroad who now migrate freely to many of these countries start families and progress. Because these countries abide by the agreements they signed, despite the change of government political parties. Your border is not secure and your government has no intention of securing it. Thats not haiti’s fault, thats your governments fault. They arrest anyone who looks haitian and hold them even if they have a Carnet plan or visa. for bribes and propinas, not for any law or immigration statute. same at the border, its currently 10mil pesos to cross and christmas is just around the corner. Your government is playing you like a puppet

You Say that the Dominican republic should follow protocol. But your argument is weak. You cannot compare the USA to the Dominican republic. The united states of America is the only superpower in the world while the Dominican republic is a third world nation where half the population is in poverty. The argument that the Dominicans make 30 to 35 percent in the united states of America is stupid. we make less than 0.1 percent of a nation of 350 million citizens. While the Haitians in the following years will be half the population of the Dominican republic. Make that make sense. Now the Haitians know that to received citizenships. One of the parents has to be in Dominican ,. But they still come, make that make sense. Platano Frito just admit you want open borders and call it day. its simpler then writing a whole paragraph or essay.

Now that is a weak argument, did you even read my “essay”? I never compared the USA to the Dominican, you did. Unrestricted Birthrite citizenship is law in 27 countries of north and south america. most of those are 3 world countries.

Haiti primarily follows a jus sanguinis (right of blood) approach to citizenship, which means that citizenship is passed down from the parents rather than being automatically granted based on birthplace. Moreover, Haitian citizenship is granted to individuals born to at least one Haitian parent, regardless of where the birth takes place. So…Haiti is one of those countries within the Americas that does not automatically grants citizenship. There is the argument that, Haiti does not want to embrace jus soli (right of the soil), in order to preserve its national identity. This is not an anomaly. Out of 195 countries in the world, only 33 countries practice unconditional “jus soli”

Who is not Haitian in Dominican Republic, 80 percent of Dominicans are Haitian descent. They let the government play in their head to make them believe and some of them to hate Haitians however I do believe when Dominicans realize they were treated their own blood they will cry bitterly. Were are one nation, and I applaud Dominicans that have been standing in solidarity with their Haitian brothers,.UNITED WE ARE STRONG QUE VIVA HISPANOLA !! NO ONE CAN SEPARATE DR FROM HAITI WE LOVE EACH OTHER NO MATTER WHAT. HAITIANS DO CONTRIBUTE TO THE WELL BEING OF DR , FACTS . THE HAITIAN GOVERMENTS PASSED AND PRESENT ARE CORRUPT.

You must be drunk or high. If we wanted to be with Haiti we would have never fought 15 battles against the Haitian nation. The Dominican Republic has never wanted to join with Haiti we don’t even speak the same language or religion or culture. we have stronger cultural bonds with Venezuela Puerto Rico and even Cuba. And we are separated by water and continents with these nations and we cultural similar in dialect food and culture. Just taught you history lesson DTO. Long Live the Dominican Republic.

Dominicans are primarily descended from a tri-racial component of Spanish, Taino, and African. I don’t know where you people conceived the notion that we are descended from you, that is ludacris, stop talking nonsense. We are not you and you are NOT us. Although Haiti gained independence and became a nation before the Dominican Republic, the Dominican people inhabited the island of Hispaniola centuries before Haitians came into the picture, so it literally makes no sense to say that we’re descended from you. I encourage you to relearn some of the history. Also, we are not your brothers, we are simply neighbors that have to try and coexist with one another.

I guess nuance doesn’t fit well in your narrative. good luck with that “we’re all one” thing, sounds like a cute idea for a t-shirt.
