Santo Domingo to host World Law Congress

Santo Domingo.- Santo Domingo will host the World Law Congress from May 4 to 6, 2025, bringing together over 1,500 participants from 80 countries, 250 panelists, and 50 discussion panels to explore key global legal issues. Distinguished attendees include former Colombian President Iván Duque and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The Dominican Republic will also serve as the stage for the prestigious World Peace & Liberty Award, known as the “Nobel Prize of Law,” presented by the World Jurist Association (WJA).

During a recent meeting at the National Palace, WJA President Javier Cremades, Iván Duque, UNICARIBE Chancellor Dr. José Alejandro Aybar M., and Lic. Jorge Luis Polanco discussed event preparations with President Luis Abinader. Cremades emphasized that the selection of the Dominican Republic as the host nation recognizes its ongoing efforts to uphold the rule of law, ensuring freedom, order, and peace.

Since its inception in 1963, the WJA has advocated for the rule of law as a cornerstone of democracy and human rights. Cremades highlighted that “the rule of law is the only alternative to the rule of force,” underscoring its role in protecting freedom and human dignity against violence and disorder.
