Flooding damages Haitian canal wall at Masacre River

Haiti.- Heavy rains caused the Masacre River to flood, significantly damaging the gabion wall of the Haitian canal that channels water to Juana Méndez. Haitian authorities are assessing the extent of the damage to surrounding infrastructure.

Juan Nova, operations director of the Dominican National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), warned that future flooding from the nearby Dajabón River could worsen the damage due to the canal’s vulnerable location. INDRHI and local authorities are collaborating on measures to reduce flood impacts and protect the canal’s infrastructure.
