Fuerza del Pueblo opposes maritime agreement with the Netherlands

Santo Domingo.- Radhamés Jiménez Peña, vice president and political coordinator of Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), urged the National Congress to reject the maritime legitimacy agreement between the Dominican Republic and the Netherlands. He argued the agreement undermines national sovereignty by establishing vague terms for exploiting oil and natural gas deposits in shared maritime territories, with provisions for proportional distribution based on the Law of the Sea.

Jiménez criticized the agreement for disregarding the Dominican Republic’s archipelagic status, as defined in Law 66-07. He emphasized that FP firmly opposes any treaty perceived as harmful to Dominican sovereignty or future generations.

Highlighting FP’s commitment to national interests, Jiménez warned the government against compromising territorial rights. “The FP will always defend the country’s sovereignty and ensure the best interests of Dominicans are protected,” he stated, urging vigilance among citizens.
