Tourism Minister fines contractor for delayed boardwalk renovation
Santo Domingo.- Tourism Minister David Collado imposed a RD$4 million fine on the engineer overseeing the San Pedro de Macorís Boardwalk remodeling for failing to complete the project on time. Collado had installed a countdown clock on November 11 to ensure accountability, but upon returning unexpectedly, he found the work unfinished despite the deadline approaching.
Reaffirming his dedication to the public, Collado stated that he is guided solely by his commitment to the community. Citing Article 7 of the contract, he imposed the penalty and granted the contractor one additional week to complete the project. The boardwalk had been neglected for over 50 years, and the Ministry of Tourism, through Ceiztour, initiated the renovation to restore it as a recreational space.
Collado emphasized the importance of the project, highlighting his personal dedication to the community and his refusal to accept commissions or bribes. He underscored his intent to ensure the boardwalk’s timely delivery for the benefit of the people of San Pedro de Macorís.

Was there timely delivery of payments due the engineer for his services? It is widely known many projects are not completed or delayed because the contractors have not been paid. They stop when payments stop. It is not mentioned in this report the reason why the engineer failed to complete the project.
That is great . Can he please do something about the condition of the roads in Punta Cana the area of Los Corales are terrible. With all the tourists here in this area it makes the rest of the country seem bad.
