Trade Union leader proposes national taxi platform to replace Uber

Santo Domingo.- Mario Díaz, president of the National Federation of Christian Social Transport Workers (Fenattransc), has proposed creating a state-run digital platform for taxi services to replace Uber and similar foreign apps operating in the Dominican Republic. Díaz argues that such a move would provide better benefits for Dominican drivers and curb alleged exploitation by multinational companies.

Díaz criticized Uber and other platforms for deducting up to 45% of service fees from local drivers, who shoulder the costs of vehicles, fuel, and labor. He proposed a state-managed platform under the supervision of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant), which would operate nationwide, lower operating costs, and increase drivers’ earnings while ensuring compliance with Law 63-17 on mobility and road safety.

Fenattransc has already drafted a plan for the platform and suggested collaboration with Intrant specialists to refine the proposal. Díaz emphasized that the initiative would align with the government’s Integrated Transport System, modernizing the country’s transportation infrastructure and safeguarding local drivers from multinational competition.

No thanks. This would end horribly. The government can’t even create a decent working websites for it’s own needs. Half of the stuff you click on leads to errors.
